Characteristic of Southwest Pottery Styles
Wind River Trading Company carries the finest pottery created by artists from the 19 New Mexico Pueblos and Hopi, Navajo and Zuni Tribes. Over the years, each group has developed its own characteristic style and look. In our 7,000 square-foot showroom, you will see examples of:
- Navajo (Diné) horsehair pottery, graduated colored feather patterns, pine pitch and stone polishes
- San Ildefonso’s traditional black-on-black
- Santa Clara’s black or deep terra cotta reds (often on beige)
- Acoma’s fine line patterns and parrot designs
- Santa Domingo’s monochrome and polychrome geometric designs
- Zuni’s relief lizards
